New Era Canning Co. of New Era, Michigan, is recalling cans of beans, the FDA announced, because some of the chili may not have been adequately cooked and the chili could be tainted with a strain of bacteria that can cause botulism.
The recall includes GFS brand Mexican style chili beans, Kitchen brand Blue Lake Mixed Cuts Green Beans, and Great Value brand Dark Red Kidney Beans.
No illnesses have been reported, but the FDA warns that the toxin can cause serious illness even if it inhaled or is absorbed through a break in the skin. Bon appetit.
